Under Construction

Sketch after Sketch, Line after Line

Well here I am still drawing a variety of floor plans all mimicking the same circulation. I have been fooling around with all of these lines and shapes in my plans but can not decide which form I prefer to continue with. Keep in mind these are simply quick sketches for exploration. I need to find out in what direction I want to head in before I begin refining and detailing the plans. I suppose I have handled the idea of circulation and how the exhibit will flow. Also the parts or chapters of how the story will unfold has been distinguished. It reflects a specific sequence from past to the present/future and then to the impacting, engaging, and stimulating activity zones. As you enter the exhibition space you have a transparent partition directly to your left and proceed into an overview hall before entrance. There are three main events, form of documentations, or periods of time that will be showcased. These three divisions are labeled as of now the green zone, the red zone, and the purple zone. The individual travels from zone to zone typically in the same circulation paths for each of the plans. This circulation tends to sort of mimic a wave, a wrap around, perhaps round about. It swerves up and back down twice almost like a snake would. I suppose the question is What is the Problem? I can not find my line. I have gone from very curvilinear lines to completely compartmentalized geometric square boxes. I have tried a rhombus shape with curved corners versus a sharp angled and a trapezoid form. I want to create the most compelling design for this exhibit on documentation. I suppose the perfect design, idea, or inspiration has not hit me yet. Hopefully I can sketch further, maybe refine these sketches, and be headed into the right direction.

Global Warming

Hello followers,
After discussing the exhibition project that is directed toward the overall idea of Global Change and Sustainability, I had run across this interesting idea on Green Design. In the world today people are becoming more and more aware of sustainability and global warming. Global warming has affected the world as a whole. What we need to do now is reduce global warming and we can do so with sustainable design. When we think of plants we think of our traditional garden or potted plant, but now we can integrate the plant into an interior with a fresh approach. It is a way to incorporate plant life and the idea of green and nature into the heart of your home or space.

This is the Organic Moss Carpet.
This beatiful biodegradable moss planter was feature in 2009 in the Milan Funiture Fair. It was created by Japan based flower artist Makoto Azuma whom collaborated with Unitika Ltd to create this green indoor phenomenon. The result of this carpet is to engage individuals with an exquisite and organic feel to the space as it is passing and running through furniture, floors, and poles. It stuns visitors and provokes a delightful presence.

This is the Green Light Botanical Lamp
Green Light created this with the help of Natalie Jeremijenko, Amelia Amon, and Will Kavesh of the Experimental Design Lab. It is the idea of combining LED lights with indoor air purification with the use of living plants. This is an innovation and incredible idea and approach to sustainability and design. This lighting system bring clear air, light, and foliage to your home. It is using a smart carbon-neutral system that improves the quality of air with the use of an integrated solar panel. This panel provides the power for a super efficient LED bulb which stimulate plants of the high air filtrating qualities. All products are both recycled and recyclable. Not to mention this new fresh fixture gives a new meaning to "Green Light".

 This is Plantwall
This is a application of vertical wall greenery. It allows to enhance the space with indoor foliage, but instead of taking up floor space it is applied to the wall. The most interesting and innovative part of Plant Wall is how it works. So how does it work? It was created by Green Fortune and is based on a four layer textile system. The actual wall contains the fertilizer that the plant need in order to survive along with moisture control, which is exhibited through a integrated drip irrigation system

 This is Vertical Garden
This is typically used in commercial settings and this will also aid to providing better indoor quality. It is a steel frame interior plant system that was designed on a grid. It allows to stack and place a number of plants vertical in either columns or walls. It can be any background or back drop in an office space to residential space. It provides an interior sense of foliage, better air quality, and the idea of green living.

Be Green

Crystal Clear

This is an interesting article I had stumbled upon on the internet. This is an exhibition that relates directly to crystals, Swarovski to be exact. It is the Crystal Palace space located in Milan, Italy. This is the "Osmosis" installation that was to reflect the diamond cut or chaton of crystals. The idea was to direct attention away for the crystal but to direct it to how the crystal was cut with precision. What forms were created from this cut? The design consists of these evident chaton forms throughout the space, from a custom 80 foot long carpet, to wire frame structures. The space also consists of these contrasting giant diamond shaped marble sculptures that are strewn across the floor.

"Arik has moved Swarovski to an arena of using crystal as a sculptural ingredient," says company head Nadja Swarovski. "He understands that crystal is more than something which sparkles; it is a valuable material which is relevant to the fields of lighting, of furniture and art."

LinesLinesLines

Okay so all I can possibly think about is Lines. I have played and sketched with so many different lines from curved, straight, to symmetrical and abstract. I want the documentation exhibit to mimic that of a time line. Another line. Although I want this line of circulation to pass through in an interesting and creative way. I considered a straight line traditional approach to the exhibition, but this did not create enough interest in my opinion. Then again a simple plan with a variety of interesting components and detail could be quite compelling. In the end result I want this to engage and enhance the experience for the user. It should create a special bond between the information and the user. It should influence the user in the most optimal way. I continue playing with my sketches with all of these different types of line to create the most interesting and provoking design. After countless ideas and sketches I figured I would simply dive deeper into lines and find some inspiration so that I can finally continue my travel through time and text.

This is a quick autocad drawing I made to divide up my space equally. Perhaps it will guide me with my assortment of lines.

Sketch Ideas

I was assigned the topic of DOCUMENTATION in the exhibit project. First off I had to research and define the word itself. After researching the topic and all that it entails I had to decide in which direction I would like to take this exhibit in. I found that documentation relates to hard evidence and facts. It is a moment of truth and I wanted to travel through time while defining truth. I found that I want the exhibit to flow mimicking that of a time line. The process of documentation has been in existence since the invention of text and writing. The idea is to travel from text to tech. It would start out with the earliest forms of documentation such as ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics on stone, to the .com era and Internet browsing. I looked into and described the experience that I want the user to experience while traveling throughout the space.

This is my sketchbook that is listing words that pertain to documentation hoping to spark a sense of direction for my project. Also are different forms of documentation chronologically ordered.
This page reflects what I need to incorporate into the space for the user pertaining to the senses. A variety of things from looking, to doing, to feeling.

This is a more developed sketch of my ideas. One is a flow chart of the experience the individual would go through. The next reflects all of the components I want distributed throughout the exhibition.

As I continue sketching possible floor plans to help me understand how I would like to divide my space. I resort to breaking up the space in sections. A variety of sketches...which I still do not know my desired direction for this project. At first through I wanted to have the individual travel throughout the space in a straight time line. Then at my second thought I considered this to be perhaps a bit boring, and figured I can create a more exhilarating experience through a more exciting and abstract space. It should engage and interest the view in a visually and mentally pleasing manner. Below are a few of my sketchy sketch first thoughts on the division of space and circulation.
