Winter Wonderland of a Break

Hello followers,
Over the winter break I had the incredible opportunity to visit Switzerland for a ski trip with my family and friends. We stayed at this beautiful hotel in Saint Moritz called the Carlton. It is the first boutique hotel in Saint Moritz. Saint Moritz is a little ski town 3 hours from Zurich that is high up in the snowy mountain tops of the Swiss Alps. At first glance it seemed like any other hotel, but as I had walked in and explored I was really impressed with the design. I found it interesting that each floor they decorated a different color which gave you a shock as you hit different floors. Typically you expect the same thing on each floor, of long hallways and numbered rooms. The overall look was this elegant glamour with a bit of spunk and fun. It had a liveliness to the design with this luxurious majestic feel.

After a long day of skiing on the slopes it was time to get some delicious lunch...
This was this really neat lunch lounge we stopped by for lunch. As I sat and stared out the window of snowy slopes, I also could not help but look around and grab a hold of all these inventive creative designs. I thought the walls were very interesting and perfectly appropriate for a ski lounge. It consisted of the wooden logs that had been cut and placed along the walls, and the wooden beamed ceiling. It made the space homey, warm, and comfortable but broke that with a modern and chic fireplace making this warm fuzzy lounge luxurious and exclusive at the same time. In the main dining room there was a beautiful piano bar next to the delicious desert bar. Along the outside were these terraces where one could have a seat amongst the invigorating alpine air and the ubelievable mountain view.

This is a plan of the private room that we had been seated in. This is not the whole restaurant it is only small room off of the main dining room. As you can see the plan in itself is very simple but very effective.

Overall it was a beautiful trip and a incredible experience. As I stayed there I not only wanted to enjoy skiing the slopes and living lavishly, but I wanted to soak up the environment and the design within it. I love having the ability to travel because there are so many interesting places to gain inspiration and inventive ideas from. Stay tuned for some more worldly adventures and its influence on myself as an individual and an interior designer ;)
