A Pour of Light

I had come across this really cool lamp. It may be a bit outlandish for some, but I like it. I am not saying that I would put it into my house, but I think it is a inventive and really neat idea. For some people they may just absolutely LOVE it! The design is both evident in form and function. The idea that it is pouring light. Sometime when I see either a new product, a fashion show, or an interior space I think to myself concept. I begin to observe and investigate this design and unravel it. I try to dive into the essence of the design. It is sort of like working backwards. Typically we begin to create a concept and design based on that, but it is interesting the turn the tables. To look at designs and understand their direction and drive for the design. The concept for this pouring light lamp would be that of a tea bag, which is clearly evident. The shape itself mimics that of a tea cup pouring out liquid. The pull string or switch is actually the little tea bag, which is on the bottom of the cup.

Sleep Comes After Death

I had stumbled upon this and well as I am incredibly sleep deprived at the given moment I figured this could help a few of us out. A series of sleep facts that I bet ya didnt knowww! ;) ha.

I had also shortly after seeing the sleep facts I found these really neat coffee designs. I would love to have a cup of coffee like this in the morning. What a fun and creative little pick me up. NOTE: A cute cabin concept a cozy cup of coffee.

The Tallest Building in the WORLD!

Can you guess what the tallest building in the world could be?.............

The tallest building in the world as of now is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It was built in 2010 with 163 floors.

A Lesson on Louis

Louis Kahn was one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. His monumental structures left a presence of deep serenity and organization. It evoked emotions. His design consisted of geometric shapes, and light. Eventually this light would flood through the abstracted shapes in the shadows of the building. Kahn was considered to be the poet of architecture in the group of famous architects, such as Pei, or Philip  Johnson. His approach to architecture and design was based off his theory of silence and light.

“Design is not making beauty, beauty emerges from selection, affinities, integration, love.”

Louis Kahn had this theory which directed his design. This theory was one that provoked a sense of curiosity, a sense of wonder, and a strive to dive deeper into its knowledge. Kahn believed that silence represented what does not exist, that silence is the unmeasureable, the desire to be. Light was the other half, the contradiction, the measureable. It indicted that giver of presence and between the both of them it created a movement. He described this inspiration as the Treasury of Shadow, the threshold of silence and light. His inspiration and sanctuary of art that drove to these monumental breathe taking spaces.

“A great building must begin with the unmeasurable, must go through measurable means when it is being designed and in the end must be unmeasurable.”
The Kimball Art Museum (below) was really neat. It provided a source of light above with this beautiful sky light. He created this incredible shape with a skylight that consisted with this diffuser to not damage the artwork. This created this interesting tunnel like structure flowing throughout the gallery. It creates a source of light but without the potential damage to famous works of art. It is functional, clever, beautiful. It reflects his strong presence and key subject in his projects. Above is probably his most famous work. The Sher -e-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka, the National Assembly building. Monumental, Geometric, Unity. It is simply beautiful resting along the serene reflecting waters.

“To express is to drive.
And when you want to give something presence,
you have to consult nature.
And there is where Design comes in.

And if you think of Brick, for instance,
and you say to Brick,
"What do you want Brick?"
And Brick says to you
"I like an Arch."
And if you say to Brick
"Look, arches are expensive,
and I can use a concrete lentil over you.
What do you think of that?"
"Brick?"
Brick says:
"... I like an Arch"”

A Video Documentary

My topic has been Documentation. As I researched further into my topic and what it really means I found a multitude of definitions. Documentation can refer to truthful evidence, support, and facts. There are many different forms of documentation. It started with stone to parchment and ink, and now to the technology that we experience today. Computer and televisions, the first telephone, there are all sources of documentation. Typically things were documented to keep track of either stories, worldly events, and much more. This is my direction of documentation showcases the different forms through the worlds greatest and most impactful natural disasters throughout history. Here is a quick video of my first few finding on documentation in the exhibition experience project. Hope you enjoy :)

A Little Inspiration
